The Needles Meadow Original Painting

This piece came from a high-summer day on Highway 550 north of Durango, when snowmelt was still running and the wildflowers were at their peak under the Needle Mountains. I painted it on site en plein air near Black Diamond Lodge, right in that short window when runoff feeds the high-elevation blooms and the whole landscape feels like it’s shifting by the hour.

This painting is about alpine summer: rugged peaks against delicate wildflowers, and the way the seasons quietly set the rhythm up high. Created in 2025, it celebrates the relationship between mountain weather, snowmelt, and sunsets.
