Alaska Map Art Original Painting

This original acrylic painting was created in 2019 on top of a USGS map of Alaska. It features a glacier, with that mix of sharp, rugged terrain and quiet, icy color that makes Alaska feel so huge.

I love painting on maps because the place is literally part of the piece. The geography underneath adds another layer of story, and it keeps the work anchored to a real location while still letting the paint do what it wants to do.
