Red Mountains Original Painting

This original acrylic painting is of Crystal Lake with the two Red Mountains towering above it on Red Mountain Pass near Ouray, Colorado. I painted it outside on a warm, green, sunny summer day, then brought it back to the studio to refine the details and push the color.

I wanted the lake to feel a little more like a memory than a photograph, with flowing, almost dreamlike shapes, while still keeping the drama of those bold red peaks. Painted in 2025, this piece is for anyone who loves the San Juans, has driven Red Mountain Pass, or just wants a landscape that brings warmth and movement into a room.
