Ouray Map Art Original Painting

Painted outside in Ouray, Colorado in fall 2025, this original piece layers plein air acrylic color over a real, printed USGS map. I created it on-site with Mount Abrams rising above the Uncompahgre River, capturing that classic San Juan Mountains mix of crisp air, dramatic terrain, and changing season light.

Because it’s painted directly on a printed map, you get both the feeling of being there and the place itself woven into the artwork. It’s mounted on a 16" x 20" gallery-wrapped canvas and arrives ready to hang.
