The Painted Wall Original Painting

This acrylic and oil painting captures one of Colorado’s most dramatic places: the Gunnison River cutting through the towering granite walls of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. I started this piece en plein air and finished refining it in the studio, keeping the focus on the canyon’s streaked rock face and the natural, almost-abstract patterns carved out over time.

At 24" x 36", it has enough scale to really hold a room and pull you into that feeling you get standing at the rim - quiet, massive, and a little unreal. Painted in 2023.
